With the thought of what goes on and into our bodies, a lot of us are unaware of how many harmful chemicals we apply onto our skin on a daily basis. Wholly soap came about with this in mind, and grew as a result of making natural soap in an effort to help a young family member suffering from eczema and allergies.
We started soap making in December 2008, using the traditional soap-making method, making small batches at a time to maintain quality and to ensure that all our soaps are fresh. Our whole family uses our handmade soaps – it’s a little luxury we indulge in every morning and every night. As for the shavings and ends of the soap logs left over, we grind them in a blender and use them as laundry granules for all our washing!
Making soap is such an amazing process filled with fun and excitement like when baking a cake or making muffins for our family or friends. With the divine blend of plant oils, clays and spices, essential oils and wholesome food elements such as oats and freshly grounded cinnamon sticks makes it a little work of art in every slice. We begin making our bars by carefully measuring and blending a combination of olive, rice bran and coconut oil together. Once the mixture is ready we SUPER-FAT our bars by adding luxurious butters such as cocoa, shea and mango and emollients like jojoba, avocado, apricot and rose hip oil giving our soaps a high percentage of moisturising qualities; colour our mixture with herbal extracts, mineral clays and/or spices, then we finished it off with a light scent from pure essential oils.
Our mixture is then poured into custom made wooden moulds and is left to set for 48 hours – to become solid soap. When they are ready, we remove the soap “logs” from the mould and hand cut them into bars (size and weight of the bars may vary, but we try to make sure they weigh at least 100g).
Et voilà! The bars are ready to be shaved, weighed and individually wrapped for you to use.
As we like to be kind to the environment, our soap packaging is very minimal.
